Provide First Aid in an education and care setting (HLTAID012)

  • Self-paced e-Learning — allow up to 6 hours
  • Hands-on practice — 5 hours in a classroom environment
  • Minimum age — 14 years
  • Annual renewal of the included CPR certification is recommended

This training is in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and may contribute towards approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training requirements defined by Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). Depending on your learning ability, you should allow up to 6 hours for reading and e-Learning. You'll gain further valuable information in 5 hours of streamlined face-to-face training and assessment in a classroom environment. Current industry standards recommend renewing this certification every 3 years, with the CPR component due for renewal every 12 months.

This comprehensive course focuses on the skills and knowledge needed to provide a first aid response and basic life support in a variety of situations. Learn how to provide CPR, use an AED, and implement an action plan to manage an incident until qualified help arrives. Streamlined for accelerated certification, Provide First Aid training begins with a highly informative online first aid course. For this e-Learning, you should allow up to 6 hours, depending on learning ability and prior knowledge. Hands-on training and assessment follows. This takes 4 hours in a classroom environment.

Provide CPR focuses on the proper application of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using the DRSABCD first aid strategy to assess and manage emergency situations. It also includes how to use an automatic defibrillator (AED) and builds confidence to be ready to provide CPR in a real-life situation. Learn to respond effectively to cardiac and breathing-related emergencies by the proper application of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and adopting the all-important DRSABCD first aid strategy. Gain the knowledge and skills required to provide CPR, manage and assess an emergency situation, and use an AED. The legal responsibilities of a First Aider will also be discussed.

Yes. Safe Work Australia recommends annual renewal of HLTAID009 Provide CPR certificates. Refresher courses instil confidence and help remove doubt – critical when CPR is needed. They also enable you to update your knowledge and skills after medical advances are made. Renewal every 3 years is recommended for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid and HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting certificates.

The minimum age for first aid accreditation is 14 years. The theory and practical aspects of first aid training present few, if any, difficulties, but would depend on the student's level of education and physical ability.
