A bustling coastal suburb, Southport is an ideal location for settling down, finding work, or starting a family. With a population of over 31,000 in 2016, the suburb is home to one of the largest communities in the country. Considered as the central business district of the City of Gold Coast, Southport has shopping centres, marinas, aquatic centres, beaches, parks, sporting venues, educational institutions, and various other community facilities and structures. The suburb is also well-serviced by public transportation, so it’s easy to get around and see the sights. It has a light rail system and 2 major bus stations that connect it to its neighbouring coastal suburbs in Gold Coast.

At the same time, Southport is also a convenient location for learning first aid. Australia Wide First Aid, a registered training organisation (RTO 31961) with over 20 locations throughout the country, holds first aid training courses in this area. The courses, which are available for individual bookings, group bookings, and on-site training sessions, range from CPR only to Provide First Aid. Upon completing a course, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment that proves their ability and competence in administering CPR and other first aid skills and techniques.

In addition to Southport, Australia Wide First Aid also has training locations in Brown Plains, Capalaba, Darra, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Mitchelton, Mount Gravatt, North Lakes, and Springfield Lakes in Queensland. There are also various Australia Wide First Aid training locations in New South Wales, Victoria, and Western Australia.

Why Learn First Aid?

First aid is a life skill, and Australia Wide First Aid firmly believes that first aid courses should be made accessible to everyone. First aid refers to the initial treatment provided to an ill or injured person until professional medical help arrives. It has 3 goals, known as 3Ps: preserve life, prevent further injury, and promote recovery. First aid can, at times, spell the difference between life and death, how long the survivor will need to recover, and the extent of their disability after their injury or accident.

A first aid certificate or Statement of Attainment provides plenty of benefits to its owner. Aside from imparting skills and knowledge, a first aid course can count as points for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Some fields and industries are constantly on the lookout for self-starters and individuals who value safety, and employers may see first aid certificate holders as persons with a sense of responsibility and excellent communication and leadership skills.

What Does It Take to Become a First Aider?

First aid can be taught at any age! To join a class and earn a Statement of Attainment, however, students aged 14 to 17 years old must present signed parental consent upon enrolment. To book a course, simply choose a course schedule and venue, fill out the attendee details, and complete the payment. Australia Wide First Aid also conducts on-site training sessions where our trainers can head to our students’ home or workplace.

The night before attending the class, students must complete an online assessment. Without this, they cannot attend the face-to-face training. After completing the face-to-face training and passing the assessment, they’ll receive their Statement of Attainment within 24 hours. CPR certifications should be renewed every 12 months, and Provide First Aid certificates should be renewed every 3 years.
